Raising Cattle Responsibly

Our Story
Local Family Farm
My love for cattle started in the mid-1960’s when, as a five-year-old boy, I began helping my grandfather feed hay and put the cows in the barn each night during the winter. Within a few years I had saved enough money to buy a calf to bottle feed.

I started raising replacement heifers for a local dairy. During my teenage years I worked at a cow/calf operation with a feed lot. While I was working for a dairy, I fell in love with Brown Swiss cows. Until 2015, I had mostly dairy cross cattle because I always wanted cows that would raise a good calf and were easy to handle.

I learned about the Braunvieh breed when looking for Brown Swiss semen. Over the years, I have raised a lot of different breeds. The Braunvieh breed meets the important characteristics in cattle for me. Here are some of the reasons I chose Braunvieh as my first registered herd:
-
Have the ability to raise a good calf and maintain their own body condition
-
Very docile
-
Moderate sized cows (1100lbs to 1300lbs)
-
Crossbreed well with all breeds
-
Thrive in any climate hot or cold.
-
Have great feet and legs
-
Have great marbling
-
Convert feed to weight at a very efficient ratio
